About Create Foundation

From humble beginnings as a small volunteer-driven group CREATE Foundation has evolved to become a national organisation with offices in every state and territory in Australia.

CREATE Foundation, originally called the Australian Association of Young People in Care (AAYPIC), was founded in 1993 by Jan Owen. AAYPIC was established because children and young people in care needed a voice in the decisions being made about their lives. A variety of groups focusing on promoting the voices of children and young people were operating in each state and territory by a range of organisations and in 1999 they amalgamated and took one name instead of eight variations. The name CREATE Foundation was chosen by young people who were heavily involved in promoting and advancing the needs of children and young people under the one banner.

CREATE Foundation is the national peak consumer body representing the voices of children and young people with an out-of-home care experience.

Our vision is that all children and young people with a care experience reach their full potential.

Our mission is to create a better life for children and young people in care. To do this we;

Connect children and young people to each other, CREATE and their Community to
Empower children and young people to build self-confidence, self-esteem, and skills that enable them to have a voice and be heard to
Change the care system, in consultation with children and young people, through advocacy to improve policies, practices and services, and increase community awareness.

We achieve our mission by facilitating a variety of programs and services for children and young people in care and developing policy and research to advocate for a better care system.
